The Scarlet Letter

It is 1642 and Hester Prynne has been branded an adulterer by her Puritan village and forced to wear the titular scarlet letter as repentance. However, in this modern adaptation, Hester is unashamed of her actions and proudly subverts society’s rigid standards put upon women to be virtuous and good. Today, as we continue to grapple with these expectations, Hester’s story resonates all the more.

ABOUT ASL INTERPRETED PERFORMANCES

American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreted Performances are enhanced performances for the deaf and hard of hearing community to support their needs while at Theatre Calgary. These performances will have the added support of two ASL interpreters, translating the show for those patrons who otherwise would be unable to understand the dialogue on stage. The interpreters will be located on the audience level in front of the stage, on the far right side of audience and will be slightly lit throughout the performance. No alterations are made to the performance on stage.

We are proud to partner with Inside Out Theatre and The Good Host Program to offer Relaxed and ASL performances on selected days throughout our 50th season!
